A CUVÉE OF
XIII ROWS CABERNET FRANC &
IV ROWS MERLOT
His unconditional love for wine and deep respect for nature, combined with his aim to produce great wine, determine Walter Schullian`s work.
One man, one wine, one vineyard. It could not be easier.
Walter Schullian produces the wine Lacus (Latin for “lake”) in the south of Lake Kaltern, South Tyrol. Lacus is a blend of small batches of Cabernet and Merlot that are exclusively grown sustainably. Both varieties are harvested at the same time, fermented spontaneously and bottled without any fining or filtration. The result is a highly complex, long living wine.
CALDARO AT THE LAKE
THE HOME OF LACUS
The basis for a great wine begins in the vineyard.
The vineyard is in a top position south of Lake Kaltern, it was newly planted with Cabernet and Merlot in 2001.
The soil is loamy and clayey, partly mixed with lime rock gravel. The vineyard is kept green, and no herbicides are used.
The vineyard is being cultivated biologically.
